About 400 years ago man invented the spinning wheel.  Until then, yarn was spun on drop spindles. In many third world countries this is still common practice today. The wheel is a beautiful tool and with it, spinning is quite faster. Today man produces fabric and yarn on machines, as well as weaving. Because everything is made this way, it has become a forgotten art. Even fiber is now made artificially.

Besides animal fibers, there are also many plant fibers that can be spun into yarn, such as cotton, bamboo, soy, flax and precious silk.

Felting is an Art that evolves Fiber and hot soapy water. Fiber is layered in different directions on top of each other, and then lathered up with lots of soap and some hot water. The hot water opens the scales of the fiber and the soap acts as a lubricant. Friction is then applied, fusing the fibers together to create felt. Fabrics were made hundreds of years ago using this process.

Working with fiber is very versatile and allows much creativity. These pieces that are created by hand are indestructible and will last a lifetime. With proper care they will remain the same quality for generations.
